Giving Back to the Local Community: Volunteering for Just4Kids with Community Matters Partnership

At Porter Garland, we believe that being part of the local community means more than just running a successful accountancy practice — it’s about giving our time and energy to the people and causes that make this area a great place to live and work. That’s why I’m delighted to be volunteering at the next event organised by Community Matters Partnership (CMP).

CMP brings together local businesses, schools and charities to make a tangible difference in the community. Their mission — to connect companies with volunteering opportunities that create lasting social value — is something that really resonates with me, both personally and professionally. It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers and deadlines of accountancy, but taking a day to roll up our sleeves and contribute in a hands-on way reminds us why local relationships matter so much.

Just4Kids is a large charity shop and wellbeing hub run by CSSEF (Chloe and Sophie’s Special Ear Fund). It plays a vital role in supporting deaf children and their families, which is why I will be joining volunteers from across the borough for the Just4Kids Annual Corporate Volunteering Day on 16th October; when we will be working together to sort through thousands of donated toys and clothes to get them ready to be sold in their shop.

It’s always inspiring to see so many local people stepping up to give back. I’m proud that our firm can play a small part in strengthening the community that supports us every day.

If you’re a local business and haven’t yet got involved with CMP, I’d highly recommend it. It’s a rewarding experience that reminds us that community partnership isn’t just good for business — it’s good for the soul.
